Workshop Title:"Automatic drawing and painting as a means to expand one's creative reach"
Instructor: Dan Groth
Sunday April 30, 2017 at 10am - 4 pm with an hour for lunch
Brief synopsis: Automism is a term used to describe a process wherein the artist suppresses conscious control over the making process, allowing the unconscious mind to have great sway. This workshop will explore experimental autonomic drawing and painting as a means to expand creative approach.
About the instructor:
Dan Groth is a long-time Durango resident, originally from Longmont, Colorado, with a degree in anthropology from Luther College. Groth works in pen-and-ink, watercolor, collage, and various printmaking styles, and explores concepts of time, landscape, the unconscious, and narrative. His surrealist, illustrative style has a dream-like quality, but with a subtle humor about it. His Willowtail residency in 2015 allowed him to explore the landscape with numerous plein-aire excursions, as well as further develop his collages, which use experimental watercolors as raw materials.
